School District of La Crosse
La Crosse, Wisconsin
In January 2026, we partnered with the School District of La Crosse, Wisconsin to pilot Explore Education across their Vision Pro programme - the first US school district deploying Vision Pro at 1:2 student scale.
What started as a grant for Jason Prude's polytechnic school turned into something bigger. "Let's maybe get 10," became 30 Vision Pros across the district - including deployment at their juvenile detention centre, bringing immersive experiences to young people who can't leave.
Jason's vision was clear from the start: students become tour guides of the world.
"I would love nothing more than for people to be immersed in locations throughout the world, together simultaneously in a classroom, while either one or a group of students effectively conduct a tour. People should be in a space. People should be looking around. People should possibly even be interacting with that space while they're giving information and forming their own inquiry."
Students pick a destination from the Explore library. They research the geography, history, culture, and socioeconomics. Then they guide their classmates through the experience - presenting while everyone is immersed in the same location simultaneously.
This isn't passive consumption. It's inquiry-based learning that demands geographical knowledge, historical understanding, and presentation skills. Career readiness through tourism and courtesy - real skills for the real world.
"This is exactly what we've been looking for. The students won't just learn about these places - they'll feel like they've visited them."
La Crosse also deployed Vision Pros at their juvenile detention centre. Young people who can't leave the facility can now travel the world - experiencing places that might inspire them toward different futures.
As Jeremy, the IT Director, put it: "We want to take these kids who can't leave to places to inspire them."
La Crosse isn't just using immersive content - they're creating it. Students shoot spatial video on iPhone 16 Pros and Insta 360 cameras, learning to be creators in a medium that will define their futures.
"We're trying to make sure that anytime the kids are consuming, it's really high-quality educational content. And what other than that - putting them in the creator's seat."
Most students will never visit the places they study. Field trips are expensive, logistically complex, and limited in scope. But what if every student could stand in Nara Park, walk through ancient ruins, or experience a glacier - without leaving the classroom?
This is the future of education: not replacing physical travel, but extending access to experiences that would otherwise be impossible.
The pilot runs through May 2026. We're working closely with La Crosse educators to document outcomes and refine the approach. Early feedback has been overwhelmingly positive - students are engaged in ways that traditional media simply can't achieve.
This is just the beginning. We're actively seeking more education partners to expand immersive learning.
We're partnering with forward-thinking districts and institutions.
